A tale of two stripes - the most unusual find to date
Share
Sadly it wasn't me who stumbled across these two beauties it was Mr. D-S-J !! I'm so jealous... every beachcomber has that moment where you spot something so unusual in the shingle that your heart does skip a tiny beat. This week Charmouth gifted us not one but TWO of these beauties.
The colours aren’t random, they hint at layered glass production, possibly from:
• Early 20th‑century decorative glass
• Hand‑poured marbled vessels
• Industrial glass where pigments were added in bands
Whatever their origin, the sea has softened them into tiny works of art! Pieces like these don’t rush you. They sit quietly on the workbench, catching the light, waiting for the right idea to arrive. I’m already imagining designs that honour their natural beauty. A minimalist pendant that lets the stripes speak for themselves or a collector’s keepsake for someone who loves the rare and unusual.
For now, I’m simply enjoying them as they are: tiny reminders that the sea still has surprises left to share.
